Who’s Really Talking About Climate Change?
Who’s Really Talking About Climate Change?
When:
3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Where:
Online
Description:
The Talking Climate Collaborative is a new home for climate communicators, built to make climate conversations move from information to action.
Hear from TCC co-founders Dr. Katharine Hayhoe and Bernadette Woods Placky, and lead researcher Dr. Dana R. Fisher, as they share what the assessment reveals about who’s communicating, who they’re reaching, where connections exist, which voices are missing, and what TCC is building to address the gaps.
The webinar will include approximately 40 minutes of presentation followed by 20 minutes of live Q&A.
On Friday, October 2, the festival moves into a celebratory mood with a Traditional Métis Kitchen Party at the North Lanark Agricultural Hall. Running from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. or later, the evening combines food, music and dance in a celebration of Métis culture.
The evening begins with boulette y bang, a traditional meatball stew served with bannock, followed by a performance by the Edmonton Traditional Métis Dancers. Juno-nominated singer and songwriter Amanda Rheaume and the Mâmawin’towin Band will provide the music, joined by old-time fiddlers Jason Lepine and Lionel Desjarlais.
Guests can also enjoy jigging and line dancing before sampling the famous Bear Paws from the Frybread Queen.
Hidden Treasures – Giveaway Weekend Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 Help keep valuable materials in circulation by giving unwanted items a second life. Residents can place unwanted but usable household goods at the curb for others to take free of charge, making it easy to declutter, reduce waste and help neighbours find a treasure they can use and enjoy. At the end of the day, bring any uncollected items back inside.
Come hang out at our (almost) weekly casual Saturday morning coffee social event. Talk EVs, all things environmental, or anything else! Come check out some cool cars and enjoy a warm beverage. No EV required!
Saturday, October 3, turns the focus to Indigenous visual art and traditional craft. The Indigenous Art and Artisan Showcase runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, bringing together more than two dozen notable artists who will share their work, stories and techniques with visitors.
For the first time, Reconciliation Through Art will also offer hands-on opportunities for visitors to learn Indigenous beadwork and create their own porcupine quill earrings under the guidance of Knowledge Keeper Patsea Griffin. The Frybread Queen will also be open throughout the day.
The showcase provides an opportunity not only to see and purchase Indigenous artwork, but to meet artists and learn about the cultural knowledge and traditions behind their work. Visitors will have a chance to enter a raffle featuring gifts from exhibiting artists and local businesses.
Free for FCA members, all others pay $10 at the door.
FCA is conducting a weekend workshop on advocacy for community groups on Saturday October 3 in Overbrook. Participants are invited to learn from the experiences of their colleagues. Several group representatives will describe a specific instance in which they have advocated for a public decision. Each will outline how their group decided to take a stand and the tools they employed to advance their position. Following the presentations, round table discussions involving all participants will consider the case studies and a panel of outside decision-makers will comment on the approaches taken.
Some participants will bring insight into their organization’s current issues. All will seek to learn how their own group can speak out effectively.

The day begins with a Water Walk from 8 to 9 am, travelling from Almonte Old Town Hall to Metcalfe Geoheritage Park.

From 3 - 4:30pm, there will be a special screening of The Apology: A Search for Justice, followed by a talkback with Métis filmmaker Matt LeMay, CEO of Indigenous Geographic. LeMay’s film follows a history making delegation to Pope Francis and was produced after his film crew received exclusive access to document the delegation’s journey and its history.

The Climate Fresk is a nonprofit initiative founded in 2019 by Prof. Cédric Ringenbach. Its mission is to raise public awareness about climate change and empower people to take meaningful action.
3-hour workshop — simple, fun, visual, creative, and engaging.
Based on science — 42 cards that summarize findings from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
Collaborative learning — participants co-create a “fresco” by connecting causes and consequences of climate change.
From insight to action — the second half explores the scale of the challenge and concrete solutions.
Global impact: Over 2.3+ million people have participated, with 100,000+ trained as facilitators. Workshops now run in 150+ countriesand 45+ languages.
Climate Fresk workshops are relatively new to Ottawa–Gatineau, and local organizers are building a broad-based program to match the format’s international success.

Our ‘kick-off’ meeting is March 3rd at 12:15 PM. Weekly meetings will follow. Get the invite below.
This year, we are starting the Eastern Ottawa Urbanism Club, a dedicated time and place for east Ottawa residents who are interested in discussing how our community is built, how it moves, and how we can make our neighbourhoods more financially and socially resilient. Whether you’re a long-time advocate or just curious about why our streets look and feel the way they do, this is a low-pressure way to connect with others who care about the future of the east end.
Our primary way of keeping in touch is a weekly virtual roundtable meeting held during the Tuesday lunch hour (12:15 PM on Tuesday is tentative until we establish it works for people)—perfect for a quick mid-week check-in on any local projects and policy discussions. To keep things grounded in the real world and to get to know each other, we also aim to meet up in person for lunch or an evening drink and/or chat every 4 to 6 weeks.
I would also invite you to share ongoing projects or issues that might be relevant to the group in The New Orleans Forum.

Green Drinks - Doing Good Work, with Peter Blanchard of GoodWork.ca
How do we work for a better world? And how do we put our skills and energy where they actually matter?
This month's Green Drinks is hosted with our new sponsor, Peter Blanchard, founder of GoodWork.ca, Canada's green and social jobs board. Peter walked away from an unsatisfying job at an IT company, travelled the world on a shoestring, and came home to build a social enterprise that does good and pays the bills.
Peter will share his story briefly, then it's over to you. Around your table, you'll swap ideas and daydreams on how each of us can do more "good work," whether that's a new job, a volunteer role, starting something of your own, or shifting what you already do. Each table will share one highlight with the room.
Whether you're job hunting, restless in your current role, or just curious, come for the conversation and stay to connect. Plenty of open networking time before and after.
📅 Thursday, October 15, 5:30–7:00 PM 📍 Sala San Marco,215 Preston Street 🍕 Pizza is on us!
Free, but please RSVP so we can order enough pizza. (Donations welcome).
Green Drinks Ottawa is presented by CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability). Celebrate wins, inspire action, and foster collaboration.

Thinking about a heat pump, solar panels, or a more energy-efficient home?
Join CAFES Network and RND Construction for a practical, no-jargon session on green home renovations.
We’ll explore the home upgrades that can make the biggest difference to comfort, energy bills, and your carbon footprint, including solar generation, heat pumps, drain water heat recovery, energy recovery ventilators (ERVs), mold-free basement construction, solar shading, and home energy monitors.
We’ll also discuss rebates and financing options and leave plenty of time for questions.
You’ll leave with a better understanding of which upgrades make sense for your home, what order to tackle them in, and what to ask a contractor before getting started.
Two sessions are available on Saturday, October 24, at 675 Industrial Avenue in Ottawa:
Session 1: 9:00–11:00 AM
Session 2: 11:30 AM–1:30 PM
The event is free, but spots are limited, so RSVP to reserve your place.
