Try your hand at sowing native flowering plants from seed on January 24th!
Join CAFES member Alta Vista Community Association on Saturday, January 24th, 2026 from 2-4pm at Rideau Park United Church to sow native flowering plants from seed. These plants will eventually be planted throughout the community this summer, becoming sources of food for pollinators and habitat for native wildlife. Imagine the satisfaction of sowing the seeds then watching them grow in your community!
The Greenspace Stewardship Committee of the Alta Vista Community Association needs your help with the following tasks at the workshop:
- Filling the planting containers with soil
- Sowing and watering the seeds in the containers
- Labelling and sealing the containers
Ahead of time, the Alta Vista CA are collecting clean, recycled cider or water jugs and deep mixed lettuce containers since there are plenty of seeds. Clean, white 750 ml yogurt tubs are also needed to make plant labels.
This could be a great solo or family activity if you've got children aged 11 or older. You could even take some containers home to nurture in the snow in your backyard until spring.
